SPIRIT OF 79 YEARS
by: AZKIA, 9A
The evening sky had started to glow with shades of orange, and flags—both the red and white of the national flag and the umbul-umbul—were already flying at every house and along the roads. The village field, usually quiet, had turned into a bustling center with the laughter and chatter of children running around. The organizers were busy preparing the competitions to liven up the pride day of the nation.
“Sal, is the water ready?” The pretty girl in the black hijab, Salma, turned toward the voice and gave a thumbs-up as a sign that everything was set. She recalled how, when she was their age, she too would run around eagerly, chasing after the prizes. Her face turned nostalgic as she remembered the first time she won the competition to retrieve a coin from a basin of water, and how proud she felt back then.
The children had started to gather, all smiling and eager to win. Their energy filled the field, adding to the lively atmosphere.
“Mas Kevin! What are the games today?” asked an 8-year-old boy while eating his banana ice cream.
“For the kids, there’s retrieving coins from water, straw relay, and water balloon popping. And for the dads and moms, there’s a water relay. Which one do you want to join, Lif?” asked Fadil, the older brother in charge of organizing the games.
“Which one has the biggest prize, mas?” the boy asked, grinning without a care.
“It’s always books, books, and more books,” teased a girl with high pigtails.
“For once, can’t the prize be a phone, mas? It’s always books! Do you think all we do is study, study, study? Ugh!” complained the other kids.
“That’s not true! Who said the prize is only stationery this year? There’s something special this time,” Salma explained softly.
The kids who had already signed up now gathered around Salma, curious about the special prize she mentioned. Salma smiled at their enthusiasm, then pulled out a small box from her bag and held it up high so that all the children could see.
“Here it is, the prize!” she said as she slowly opened the box. Inside was a pair of bright blue headphones with a retractable cord.
The children quickly gathered closer, curious and amazed by the item.
“These aren’t just any headphones,” Salma continued.
“These can be folded and are easy to carry around. Perfect for those of you who love listening to music or studying with audio. And the best part, it’s only available for 1 winner/competition! So it’s only ready 3”
“Wow, I want that one, Kak!” shouted one of the kids.
“Me too! Me too!” added another, now even more excited to join the competition to win the prize.
Thanks to Salma’s words and the prize she showed them, the kids who had been reluctant to join now became interested and started pushing each other to sign up. Some even pushed and shoved to get to the front of the line.
“ME!! ME FIRST!!”
“SHAKILEE, KAK! SHAKILEE FOR WATER BALLOON POPPING!!”
“IHHH, DIMAS WAS HERE FIRST, BUT WHY IS CHELSEA’S NAME BEING WRITTEN FIRST!” one child protested, crossing his arms in front of his chest, pouting.
“Patience, kids! Patience! Kak Cinta and Bang Paul only have 2 hands, so please be patient, our dear little ones,” the two organizers tried their best to quickly and fairly write down the names of the participants, who were now getting out of control.
After a long and exhausting drama, the competitions finally began. The participants competed with full enthusiasm, cheered on by their friends who were watching and by the event organizers. And now, it’s a last competition in this year and it’s a final round.
“SHAKILEE, SHAKILEE! Left, Shakilee!!!” her friends shouted excitedly, directing her to the right position.
SPLASH!!
The water-filled plastic hanging on a horizontal bamboo burst open. With slightly trembling hands, Shakilee felt the water splash onto her face. She paused for a moment before realizing that she had won. With a triumphant shout, she jumped into the air, accompanied by applause from the audience. The mixed aura of disappointment from the other participants who didn’t win blended with the joy of those who did. They tried to smile and take it in stride, but they didn’t give up. They were determined to do better in next year’s competition, holding firmly to the values of Pancasila.
The sun had set, replaced by the moon’s glow and the cool breeze that signaled the closing of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day celebration. It meant that tomorrow was a special night—the night where an ordinary day turned into a special day for the nation, a day filled with pride and joy. A night where the golden generation of Indonesia would showcase their talents, gathering in one place to witness and appreciate their performances. That night was not just a celebration. It was a night where everyone, from children to adults, felt an unbreakable bond of togetherness, where the spirit of unity and solidarity was incredibly strong. Under the starry night sky, they remembered the long struggle of the nation to achieve independence and how precious the freedom they now enjoyed was. Hopes and dreams were silently expressed in the hearts of everyone present, wishing that in the coming years, this country would continue to progress, become more prosperous, and always be filled with joy like what they felt that night.
With slow steps, they all returned to their homes, carrying the sweet memories of the day, and looking forward to tomorrow, when they would gather again to proudly celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day. A night full of laughter, emotion, and pride that only happens once a year, but leaves an impression that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
~THE END~
POEM, by : Bagus
Waterfall
The sound of a waterfall flowing,
The water flows along the sandy rocks,
Popping bubbles,
Blown away by the wind, dust flies in pieces,
The birds chirping sounded sweet,
Like a beautiful song,
The sun shines dimly,
One with nature and unity,
Birds in flocks fly together,
Circling the waterfall between the rocks,
Perched on a tree branch,
Really beautiful rural nature.
Catatan singkat;

Sinau Bareng, Maju Bareng

Ing dina setu kang cerah wingi, aku lungguh ing emper omah, dikancani dening kanca akrabku, Al. aku lan dheweke nembe wae rampung mangan ing wektu awan lan saiki thenguk-thenguk sinambi nikmati swasana. Ora kaya biyasane, ana kang seje dina iku. Aku ngrasakake menawa duwe pepinginan, kanggo ngisi wektu kang sela ora mung dinggo omong-omongan kang ora ana gunane ngene iki.
“Kowe ngerti, sedhela maneh awake dhewe mengeti 79 taun kamardikan Indonesia,” kandhaku marang Al “Kepriye yen awake dhewe nglakoni apa wae kang ana manfaate, mligine ing bidang pandhidhikan? mumpung awake dhewe ora ana garapan ana ing kene”
Al ngangkat alis, penasaran. “Maksude opo sih nop?”
Sinambi gumuyu taj cethakake, “awake dhewe kabeh mesthi nduwe keahlian dhewe-dhewe, ya? nah priye yen awake dhewe tukar kawruh bab-bab kang awake dhewe kuasai? tuladhane, aku bisa ngrewangi kowe nalika kowe kangelan jero nggambar, lan kowe bisa ngewangi aku nggunakake keahlianmu sajroning bidang basa Inggris.”
Al isih bingung wektu iku nanging wiwit ngerti. “nggambar ya? aku mono pancen ora wasis. Nanging aku bisa ngrewangi kowe sinau basa Inggris. Dadi priye iki, ngono kuwi maksudmu?”
Idheku jebul prasaja nanging duweni karep kang jero. Aku lan dheweke sarujuk kanggo wiwit sinau bareng, dudu mung kanggo nambahi ketrampilane dhewe-dhewe, nanging uga dadi sarana kanggo ngisi kamardikan. Jalaran salah sijine cara kanggo ngisi kamardikan dening bocah sekolah yaiku sinahu. Sokur-sokur bisa ana gunane kanggo kancane.
Teras omahku dumadakan dadi papan kanggo sinau. Aku lan dheweke lungguh bareng, sinau sinambi guyon, ngrewangi siji karo liyane. Kadhangkala, uga melu urun rembug isu-isu liya ing jaba wulangan, kaya kahanan negeri Indonesia ing wektu saiki. Manut kabar kang viral saiki lagi padha ngrembug Istana Negara kang ana ing Kalimantan kana, kang bakal dianggo upacara sesuk ing tanggal 17 Agustus 2024.
Aku lan dheweke wektu iku rumangsa seneng, amarga sanadyan mung dolanan ing omahku nanging bisa kanggo nambah wektu sinahu. Sanadyan aku lan dheweke saiki isih bocah sekolah aku percaya menawa sesuk kang bakal dadi penerus para pemimpin bangsa. Kanggo njaga kamardikan bangsa bisa diwiwiti kanthi cara njaga kerukunan, wiwit saka kerukunan kanca ing omah uga ing sekolah. Muga-muga kanthi tambahing umur kang kaping 79 taun iki, ngepasi bakal dibuka Ibukota baru, Indonesia tansaya maju. Maju rakyate, maju pendhidhikane.
